Overview
5-Amino-1MQ blocks nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme that is highly active in fat tissue. NNMT consumes compounds the cell also needs for NAD+ and for methylation reactions.
In mice fed a high-fat diet, blocking NNMT with 5-amino-1MQ reduced fat mass and fat cell size without changing food intake. Human data are not available.
