Overview
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide made of 15 amino acids, based on a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice. Unlike most peptides it is unusually stable, including in acidic conditions, which is why it is studied both systemically and in the gut.
Most of the published work comes from animal and cell models, where it has been linked to blood-vessel formation (VEGFR2 signalling), nitric-oxide pathways and fibroblast migration. Controlled human data are still limited.
