Overview
IGF-1 is the main hormone through which growth hormone acts on tissues. In the body most IGF-1 is held by binding proteins that limit its activity.
IGF-1 LR3 is modified so that these binding proteins barely recognise it. It therefore stays active much longer, which is why it is a standard additive in cell culture to support cell growth.
