Overview
KPV is the last three amino acids of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), a hormone with known anti-inflammatory effects. The short fragment keeps much of that activity.
In cell and animal studies KPV reduced inflammatory signalling (NF-κB). In the gut it is taken up by intestinal cells through the PepT1 transporter, which is why it is often studied in colitis models.
