Overview

Naltrexone blocks opioid receptors. At standard amounts it is an established medicine; 'low-dose naltrexone' research looks at much smaller amounts, where its effects appear to be different.

At low levels it is thought to act on immune cells in the brain (microglia) and on TLR4 signalling, and it has been studied in small trials on chronic pain and inflammatory conditions.

Research areas

  • Microglia and neuroinflammation
  • Chronic pain conditions
  • Immune regulation
