SS-31

Overview

SS-31, also called elamipretide, crosses cell membranes and concentrates in mitochondria. There it binds cardiolipin, a lipid of the inner mitochondrial membrane that holds the energy-producing machinery together.

By stabilising cardiolipin it supports energy production and reduces oxidative stress. It has been studied in clinical trials on rare mitochondrial diseases and heart failure.
